Dylan Thomas' 100th Birthday Celebrations!
Part of the Classics & Classicals series of events, 'For the Love of Driving & Dylan' is a unique experience which, is designed to celebrate Dylan Thomas' 100th Birthday, his literary work, while enjoying the historic beauty of South West Wales through autumnal surroundings!
This once in a lifetime adventure homes itself on Laugharne, Dylan Thomas' place of residence between 1949-59. While on the event why not visit his home, The Boat House, now a museum and the writing shed where he penned many of his famous works including Under Milk Wood. Down a pint in Browns Hotel or the Three Mariners where Dylan frequented, where the language was colourful and gave birth to many of his characters when writing about Llareggub.
The 12th Century Castle at Laugharne is the centre of operations for this special event. Documentation at the Castle and a Concours de Elegance under the South wall overlooking Carmarthen Bay, will take place on Thursday 2nd. Later this evening, a welcome dinner at The Corran Resort & Spa set in the Marsh Lands will set your weekend off on a good note with Mark Montinaro narrating works from Thomas.
The two day tour will start early from the 12th Centuary Castle on the 3rd. Heading West through Pembrokeshire's Coastal National Park, visiting St David's Cathedral, over the Preceli's before heading for lunch at Hammet House, a Welsh Rarebit Hotel where five star culinary delights await you. You may visit Cenarth Falls on the River Teifi, famous for jumping salmon and Coracle manufacture after lunch, before heading again over the Preceli's and on to an Iron Age Fort and Llys Y Fran. Tonights evening function is a Black Tie banquet at the 12th Century Castle where you will be welcomed by Georgina Cornock and her harp, entertained by the local Coran Singers a Welsh Choir and narration of Thomas' works, Poetry & Prose from Mark Montinaro.
Day three meanders its way through the valleys of the South West and Mid Wales, over the Cambrian Mountains, along the Towy Valley before lunch in another Welsh Rarebit restaurant, North of Abergwesyn. After lunch visiting the Castles of Llandovery, Carreg Cennen and Dryslwyn before finishing the day at the Botanical Gardens of Wales. Tonight, you can let your hair down at the Corran Resort & Spa with a fantastic evening of Jazz music provided by the Black Hawk Big Band.
