Date: 26 April 2018-29 April 2018 Times:
The 10th Flying Scotsman will be flagged away from the Brooklands Museum shortly after midday on Thursday 26 April. A relaxed run through the Home Counties provides a gentle introduction, allowing crews to slowly build a head of steam for the days ahead.
Day two sees the route swing east, towards the flatlands and fens of Norfolk, to take in some exciting new challenges before turning north through the quiet yet magnificent Lincolnshire Wolds.
After a comfortable night halt close to the majestic Humber Bridge, the gradients increase through Saturday, as the spectacular moors and dales of Yorkshire welcome us.
On day four, our special Anniversary Edition rounds off with a shorter day of splendid moorland motoring through the wilds of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders before a triumphal arrival at the Balmoral Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh, appropriately close to Waverley Railway Station, the original destination of our illustrious steam powered namesake.
The station masters, the track workers and the mechanics of the Endurance Rally Association are already working on the route and schedule for the 2018 excursion and are busy getting the engine and carriages ready for the next running of the toughest Vintageant rally on the calendar. A heady mixture of highways, byways, navigational sections and closed road tests will once again mark the Flying Scotsman out as Britain's Premier competitive Vintageant rally event.
Brooklands to Edinburgh
The ERA have organised 54 major events, in more than 50 different countries around the world, and have been responsible for some widely-acclaimed initiatives in rallying, taken up by others. As well as being responsible for kick-starting the entire historic rally movement back in the 1980s, we instigated the all new endurance rallying scene.
